LEC ALLAYS NATIONS FEAR

Following numerous complaints on poor supply of electricity in a number of places within the Maseru CBD and the neighbouring areas, Lesotho Electricity Company has clarified the situation to the nation.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Thursday, the Public Relations Manager of LEC, Mr. Makhetha Mots’oari stated that there is currently a problem experienced at the 132Kv line from Mabote to Mazenod which also caused a trip for the LEC Border, Highway and Pioneer substations.

He showed that this problem which the company is currently working on is going to cause a disturbed supply of electricity in areas getting electricity supply from the Mazenod substation.

He added that the substation will remain off for as long as the works are still being done and the Thaba Tseka district is also expected to be affected.

Mr. Mots’oari allayed the nation’s fear that the supply will be restored as the company is working tirelessly to ensure for such.

He indicated that investigations are still ongoing as to establish the root cause of the tripping so as for it to be attended to.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mots’oari stated that the company is currently sourcing from other substations as to continue with the supply of electricity to the users of the affected areas, adding that the supply is still going to be disturbed due to the maintenance processes that are still ongoing.

The Lesotho Electricity Company is wholly owned by the Government of Lesotho. It was registered in the terms of the Companies Act of 1967 (as amended) and was established in 2006 in terms of the LEC (Pty) Ltd Establishing and Vesting Act 2006.
